On June 2, 2026, Marvell Technology<\/strong>(MRVL) became the center of attention after Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang described it as the \u201cnext trillion-dollar company.\u201d The comment was short, but the market reaction was enormous.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Marvell\u2019s stock surged, continued climbing over the next two trading days, and then suffered a sharp decline. By the end of June, the episode had become an interesting example of how quickly expectations can change in the stock market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What made investors so excited, and what can this price movement teach us about investing?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On June 2, 2026, Jensen Huang appeared with Marvell CEO Matt Murphy during COMPUTEX in Taipei. During their discussion, Huang described Marvell as the \u201cnext trillion-dollar company.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He did not call Marvell the \u201cnext Nvidia.\u201d He was saying that he believed Marvell had the potential to become a company worth $1 trillion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That was a big statement, and investors paid attention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Reuters<\/a>, Marvell shares jumped during trading after Huang\u2019s comment. The closing prices show just how much the stock moved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Stock Price Story<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Here are Marvell\u2019s closing prices during the first week of June, based on Yahoo Finance historical data<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On June 1, Marvell closed at $219.43. The next day, it closed at $290.79, an increase of about 32.5%. It kept going up for two more trading days and reached $316.43 on June 4.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then, on June 5, the stock dropped to $263.47, losing about 16.7% in one day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I found this especially interesting because the stock moved so much in such a short time. Someone who bought near the peak on June 4 would have seen the value of their shares fall sharply the next day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By June 26, Marvell closed at $266.77. That was still about 21.6% higher than its June 1 closing price, but much lower than its peak earlier in the month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The stock had a strong rally, but it did not keep going up in a straight line.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Watching a stock that my mom follows so closely move this much made the news feel more real to me. It was no longer just another stock chart. I wanted to understand what could make investors so excited one day and much less confident just a few days later.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why Did Investors React So Strongly?<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

I think part of the answer is who made the comment. Jensen Huang leads Nvidia, one of the biggest companies in the AI industry. When someone with that kind of influence speaks positively about another company, investors may take it seriously.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There were also business reasons for the excitement. In March 2026, Nvidia announced a $2 billion investment in Marvell and a plan to work together on AI infrastructure technologies. Marvell also expected its custom chip business to generate more than $10 billion in revenue in fiscal 2029.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These developments gave investors reasons to be optimistic about Marvell\u2019s future. But there is a difference between believing a company has potential and knowing that its stock is worth a certain amount.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Huang\u2019s comment did not guarantee that Marvell would become a trillion-dollar company. The company would still need to grow, compete with other businesses, and meet its own goals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What Does This Mean for Investors?<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The part that stood out to me was how quickly the stock went up and then fell.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A company\u2019s business does not usually change completely in one day, but its stock price can. Sometimes investors react to news because they believe it will lead to better results in the future. Other investors may buy simply because they see the price rising and do not want to miss out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That can push a stock higher very quickly. But if excitement fades or investors start selling, the price can fall just as fast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This does not mean Marvell is a bad company or that Huang was wrong about its potential. It means that a positive comment alone is not enough to decide whether a stock is a good buy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I also realized that even if a company does well, buying its stock at a high price can still be risky. The company might grow, but the stock price may already reflect a lot of that expected growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For me, the most interesting question is not whether Marvell can become a trillion-dollar company. It is what the company would need to accomplish to make that price realistic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I finished my month in Korea on June 27 and returned to the U.S. before starting the University of Chicago Young Scholars Program, where I am studying number theory. I had a lot of time to read, think, and catch up on things during my flights and train rides. I also used some of that time to work on this blog.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
